Additional NotesSubaru Impreza WRX STi version

Built to order Limited Edition with a maximum sales limit of 100 cars per month, starting in March 1994. A plaque was fitted on the offside front suspension strut tower showing the month of build and the build number within that month, so for example, the plaque on GC8-018561 shows “94 May 31/100” for the 31st car built in May 1994.*

The Impreza WRX STi version was based on the Impreza WRX, but with engine and suspension tuned by STi. Modifications over the standard WRX included forged pistons and lightweight HLA, upgraded engine ECU fitted with an additional ROM holding a dedicated STi program, silver STi intercooler with water spray. On the exterior a large rear wing, cherry red grille badge, and body coloured lower bumper grille were the only items to distinguish the STi version from the WRX, but unique 16-inch split-rim 5-spoke alloy wheels were available as an optional extra.

* An additional 100 cars were sold from July 1994 as an “Acropolis Rally” Special Edition, showing a different design of numbered plaque on the offside front suspension strut tower. These were marketed as a celebration of Subaru's overall win at the Acropolis Rally at the end of May 1994, in an Impreza 555 crewed by Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya. Upgrades were purly cosmetic and the cars were mechanically identical to the Impreza WRX STi version, including the same Option Code 61.
